Jesus says, "I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it."

Brother Purna Bahadur Rai

Brother Rajan Tamang
Mr. Rajan Tamang and Mr. Purna Bahadur Rai (shown in the pictures), are two of the thirty-four Christians who were called to Tsirang, to meet the District Administrative Officer, Mr. Kuenzang Dorji on the 20th of June this year. Upon their arrival, all these villagers were beaten and many suffered from broken ribs, bruised backs, damaged eardrums and other internal injuries. These two men however, were treated the worst. After being beaten so badly that they were vomiting blood and suffered from broken ribs and fractured arms, they were forced by Mr. Nim Tshering, to carry sand bags on their backs from the Larey River to Dhampu which is about a three-hour walk.
Bhutan takes very strict action against those who either change their religion or talk about their religion to others. Conversion is not allowed and the consequences for doing so are dire. These two brothers have even gone to the king of Bhutan with their case. The king in turn has asked them to take it to the High Court. They now attend High Court for legal rights. Continue to pray for our brothers and sisters in Bhutan, especially in the villages who continue to face a lot of harassment and persecution.
In another incident in the Haa district in Western Bhutan, a businessman and his wife, respectively Mr. K.D.Rai and Mrs. Monmaya Chhetri, were asked to leave Haa. Their business, which was a small one, was also closed down by the District officer, Mr. Dasho Sherab Dorji, in November, 2000. Since December last year they have been living in Thimpu, the capital city of Bhutan.

Brother K.D.Rai and his wife Monmaya Chhetri, who were asked to leave their village.
Mr. K.D.Rai, was born and brought up in Morang, East Nepal. His family was not Christian. When he was 18 years old he left his hometown and went to Bhutan in search of a job. He says it was very hard working in the logging department, deep in the forest of the Haa district. It was after this that he opened his own garment shop and also worked part time as a carpenter. He married Monmaya Chhetri in 1980 and they now have three children. The whole family personally accepted the Lord as their Savior in 1987 and were actively involved in the church. It was not long before people from the nearby villages were hearing the gospel and even witnessed healing. However, there were those who opposed and they went and reported them. Finally they were asked to leave the place immediately. Brother Rai along with a few others were then called to the District office and warned not to meet together for fellowship or practice their faith publicly anymore.
