What we need is a solid education system based on critical thinking, the right to uncensored information, and the ability to question with impunity are all essential to a democracy, and all are currently lacking in our country.

Innocent are damned
At NSS' command;

The door is slammed!
The lie: I slam not the innocent.
Release every prisoner of conscience!

I dont see you opening up the topic of torture in Maldivian prisons. This is a place to debate, hence would be great if you could suggest a solution or maybe give your opinion on why is there ongoing torture of our brothers and sisters in Maldives. Who is accountable? Are those at the top accountable or even those who carry out the orders by the excuse "i was only following orders". ? If the NSS has a bigger hand in this, how can we bring about a change to this? Is it a problem of the NSS not having to answer to the public? If so, again.. what is the best way forward to solve this problem?

Thank you, sir, for encouraging debate on torture in Maldivian prisons. It appears that many people are afraid to speak up here - for fear that the NSS trace them down and torture them as well. Cases of torture in western or Christian lands are rare. But in this Islamic country torture abounds. Even a fool can see that something is fundamentally wrong: we do not love our neighbour as ourself. When a neighbour or friend is illegally imprisoned, there may be protest for a while. But citizens fail to band together and persist until their protest prevails. The failure of the Black Friday protest is a prime example. Dhivehin are not cowards. It is just too easy to sit back and see what happens - until the next victim is you or I.
Yes, it is a wicked problem that the NSS do not have to answer to the public. In a democracy they would not be able to get away with murder. Maldivian police ought to handle all internal crime. The NSS must be limited by law to handle only external threats to the country.
Proclaim liberty throughout the land!
